WHAT WE'RE ALL ABOUT

Global Youth Service Day is the largest service event in the world! Established in 1988, GYSD celebrates and mobilizes the millions of young people who improve their communities each and every day of the year through service.

Bloomington's 6th GYSD was on April 21, 2017, and was organized by the Monroe County Youth Council, with support from Youth Services Bureau of Monroe County, the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network, and the Monroe County Public Library.

For GYSD 2017, 350+ high school students spent the day volunteering at various projects in the community, focused on issues like poverty, hunger, and literacy. Monroe County Youth Council members worked hard to plan the service projects.  In addition, a satellite project with IU SPEA undergraduates and Tri-North middle school students through the YES Club participated in 10 other service sites. In total, hundreds of youth in our community participated in a collective day of service!

GYSD 2018 will be held on April 20. If you're a teen interested in volunteering or have questions about GYSD, contact mcyouthcouncil@gmail.com.
